Indicators
We live life surrounded by all kinds of indicators...
- The indicator of what temperature it is outside, is on your thermometer
- Your car is wired with indicator lights on the dash display
- Video games have different indicator gadgets on screen as you navigate the game
- Your mom's face has non-verbal indicators of her tolerance level centered around your current behavior...if the eye brow goes up and the lips narrow and become tense... you're reaching the "watch out, you're going to get it" stage.
There are many other indicators in the life that surrounds us...and we base our decisions and make our choices around them...often, we will use these indicators to help us determine where we are and where we're going...
For example we use maps and we use global positioning satellites to track where we are and where we need to go...
(...although I find it odd that our bus drivers on trips sometimes have a difficult time understanding and reading the indicators on their global positioning devices, thus making us drive around for extended periods of time, confined to our 2 square foot living space called your spacious seat that reclines enough so that the knot in your back is now located a little lower than it normally would be ) — where was I? Oh, yes...
Sometimes in life it's good to look at an indicator and make a call at where we are accordingly and decide if we need to move in a certain direction...
So, if you're a Christ follower — perhaps you can read this following passage of scripture and take a few moments to ponder where you are at in relation to the values God is asking us to make a part of our everyday living...do you need to take some steps in certain areas to improve? Not so God will love you more, but more so for us to honor Him and make it easier to reflect His love to those around us...
Instructions:
Take a moment... — pray for God to whisper to you, areas that He'd like to help you make progress in...then read and meditate on this passage from Colossians 3:12-17 (nlt):
Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. You must make allowances for each other's faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony. and let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other. Sings psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representitive of the Lord Jesus, all the while giving thanks through him to God the Father.
- What's one thing that God wants to help you improve on?
- What's one or two practical ways you can begin making progress in that area this week?
God, thanks that you desire us to continue growing in our relationship with you, but especially thanks, that we don't have to do that by ourselves... thanks for walking that journey along side us!
and I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work... - Philippians 1:9
